I’m Not In This By Myself

Dear Future franchisees,

Student Works Painting has been one of the hardest yet most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had. This job is exhausting and requires constant hard work and dedication. I came into business school having no experience and no clue what I wanted to do in life and now I can say at the age of eighteen, I have learned more than any other business student and successfully ran a business that sold over one hundred thousand dollars. This was not an easy task however. Never giving up even though life can be hard is crucial. Especially when one encounters a period of no leads, no estimates, and no bookings, it becomes hard to not give up, but persevering and getting past that point makes it very rewarding at the end. With help from my district manager and some experienced colleagues, I was able to finish my year strong.

When production came around, I remember being extremely ill prepared, completely lost and quite stressed. Painters were slow and not beating budget, clients were complaining, I didn’t know what I was doing, I felt like I had bitten off way more than I can chew. I went to the first payroll event and talked with other rookies and heard all their production failures and successes and it was at that point that I realized, we’re all going through the same thing, I’m not in this by myself. I felt such a sense of belonging, by the end we all became great friends helping and assisting each other. I highly suggest all franchisees to go to the payroll events and make friends with other franchisees. My favourite part of Student Works was meeting new people, making friends, and always having someone there who can relate to your problems and will help you out when they can so you don’t have to kill yourself.

As the summer continued things became easier and ran more smoothly. People would approach you wanting painting done instead of you going door to door. You start to only focus on production and keeping your painters happy. This is the turning point when you look back at all the hard work you’ve done and think to yourself, it was good not giving up. All in all, Student Works Painting will be the hardest most difficult experience you can do in university, yet it is the most fun, most rewarding, and most importantly the most educating.
