Take 1 Challenge At A Time

How to take one challenge at a time and only worry about the things I can control

This past summer with Student Works Painting has been the most challenging, yet invigorating summer of my life. I have not only learned an immense amount of practical skills such as organization and management but I have learned that small business requires an incredible amount of determination and hard work to succeed.

A valuable skill which I honed from my summer franchising with Student Works Painting was how to take one challenge at a time and only worry about the things I can control. As simple as it may sound, I initially found this to be one of the most difficult things to do. It is easy to become overwhelmed when you have a million things to do and only about sixteen hours in each day to do them. The better I became at tackling one thing at a time, the more effectively I was able to deal with problems and quickly find solutions rather than stressing out and ultimately just spinning my wheels.

I could not have made it through the summer without the vast amount of material and information given to me from Student Works Painting along with the support from my district manager. Brenden was always willing and happy to help and provide advice. He used to be a franchisee himself, so more often than not, he had already been through whatever challenge I was facing. Through SWP, I was also able to meet many other awesome franchisees who were equally willing to lend a helping hand.

Franchising with Student Works Painting is hard work, but how else could an eighteen-year-old run a small business? I learned so many valuable life skills from this summer and I have grown to have immense respect for small business owners. It requires an unfathomable amount of grit and determination but the reward of having built something from the ground up is worth every second of it.
