This Crazy Adventure

new set of learning curves and had its own challenges and rewards
Jessica, 4 Year

If you’re anything like me you first heard of this crazy adventure after having a clipboard dropped on your lap at the beginning of some boring university lecture. After being intrigued by the “Need a summer job? Make $20,000 next summer” headline you signed your name and completely forgot about it… until you received a call and went for an information session. I’m sure by now you’ve already been told a million times that this is the hardest thing you will ever do in your life – and it isn’t a lie. It is however also the most rewarding thing you will ever do.

Each year in my time with Student Works has been a new adventure, came with a new set of learning curves and had its own challenges and rewards. My first year was an absolute gongshow! I struggled to maintain a work/life balance between university, work, Student Works and having some time to unwind during February-April while trying to book up enough work for the beginning of the summer and hire painters to complete the work for me. I spent a lot of time knocking on doors, posting on Facebook and doing estimates however this time was very well spent. Then May happened and I had another beast to learn – the production season. However through it all I knew I had this amazing community of support to lean on and to help teach me and help me to grow as a person. Even though my first year was incredibly tough, I decided that the things I had learned far outweighed the negatives and decided to sign on for another year.

My subsequent two years have taught me so many things about myself and the world around me. I’ve learned how to truly persevere when I struggle, how to better interact with clients in a professional setting, how to organize my time wisely, balance my work and personal time and so many more valuable skills. Beyond all that Student Works has afforded me the opportunity to graduate with less student loan debt, travel around Europe, Cuba and Asia (all while being paid) and to have this amazing community that celebrates in your successes and helps to lift you up when you fail.

And you will fail. Sometimes you will fail hard and you won’t think that you could ever possibly succeed again. However, if you are a good franchisee you will eventually learn how to pick yourself back up again, dust yourself off and win. We have set you up for success – all you need to do is take it.

Why should you decide to come on this crazy adventure with us? Because not only will this set you up for future successes (employers love to see that you’ve run a business), but because you will learn so much about yourself that you otherwise may not have ever known. You will learn valuable skills that you will use every day. You will end up with some of the best friends of your life and you’ll end up with so much more. What 9-5 affords you these opportunities?

Here’s to hoping I’ll see you in the training room in January and share a drink in Mexico!
